Los Angeles (KNX) - This year will mark the 10th anniversary of Angel City Pit Bulls' long history of partnering with the LA Marathon to raise money for shelter pets around Los Angeles.

And if they can reach their fundraising goal of 150,000 for this weekend's marathon, it will put them over the million mark for dollars raised over that 10-year time.
"It's our annual goal, our 10-year goal, and our ten-year anniversary. So it's a big one for us," Co-founder Brian Jet tells KNX reporter Heather Jordan.

The non-profit, started in 2010 by Brian's wife, Katie Larkin, does a variety of things for the community, such as paying for shelter animals' medical expenses, organizing dog walks, and they fight to change the negative stigma of pit bulls in the community.
Volunteer Peggy Kennedy is leading the large running team from Angel City Pit Bulls at this weekend's marathon. She will be heading a group of about 115 runners across three events making Angel City Pit Bulls one of the largest teams taking part.

So if you are running or just cheering on the runners, make sure you stop by the Angel City Pit Bulls Cheer Station along the route at Burton Way and Maple Street. With any luck, some rescued pups will join all the fun. Peggy says, "sometimes they just pop up anywhere along the course, and it's just a nice little surprise."

Brian, Katie, Peggy, and the Angel City Pit Bulls team are our KNX Heroes of the Week.
