DALLAS (KRLD) - There may be a second investigation into the death of a top Dallas County prosecutor.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) says it is contacting local authorities about the events leading up to Saturday's death of Justin Lord.

He was suspected of drunk driving in the Ellis County town of Palmer shortly before apparently taking his life Saturday.

"TABC's investigators in the Dallas area are reaching out to local police and examining media reports to determine if the agency should be involved in the investigation," said Chris Porter, a TABC spokesman.

Lord died at a Plano hospital Saturday morning after suffering, what sources say, was a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home in Dallas County. Hours earlier, he had been involved in an accident in the Ellis County town of Palmer where police administered a DWI blood draw.

Police say Lord appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. They say his car was in a ditch and that Lord appeared confused and thought he was in Rowlett, some 45 miles away.

Sources say Lord had been drinking at a Dallas bar in the hours before he tried to drive home. Sources say Lord was found in his Dallas county home and taken to a hospital in Plano where he died.

On Saturday, authorities in Ellis County say an investigator from the Dallas County DA's office got copies of records from Palmer Police.

The DA's office has not answered questions about the case since issuing a statement Saturday.

A spokeswoman insists Rowlett Police are in charge of the investigation. Rowlett police are referring all questions back to the Dallas County DA's office.
