The Cedars neighborhood is included in the curfew area, but Chief Renee Hall went outside and spoke with the group after 7 p.m.

"Right now, I am giving you guys grace because we have a curfew," she said. "One was instituted because we will not let you burn down this city."

Hall told the group Dallas police are "heartbroken" over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis and said "there is still work to do" to acknowledge cultural issues in law enforcement.

"We can't do that if you're looting and criminalizing all of our downtown, breaking windows, shooting," she said.

"That was not us," a demonstrator said.

"At the end of the day, when 600 people are out here, how do we know who's who?" Hall answered.

Police say they then warned protesters they would be arrested if they stayed.

Dallas police say three people refused to leave and were arrested for violating curfew.
