DENTON (1080 KRLD) - Denton County will have its first drive-through COVID-19 testing site Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon.
To be eligible, folks need to live or work in Denton County and had to have had symptoms within the last seven days.
"We're asking all community members that feel they are symptomatic -- whether they've got just a cough or sore throat, any of the symptoms that are for COVID-19 -- they can go ahead and give us a call to get pre-registered for a spot to be able to get tested this weekend," says Jennifer Rainey, spokeswoman for Denton County Public Health.
Results should be available within a week, and the test is free of charge.
"Many community members have received testing for COVID-19 at their primary care providers or urgent care centers," says Dr. Matt Richardson, Director of DCPH. "However, testing supplies have been limited and sometimes inaccessible. We are thankful for new partnerships that allow us to provide expanded drive-thru testing for community members who are ill and unable to locate testing."
The testing center is limited to 200 tests.
A doctor's referral is not necessary to pre-register,
"They just need to give us a call so that we can ensure that they are symptomatic and do meet that eligibility criteria," says Rainey, "but as long as they've pre-registered, they will be on our list for testing on Saturday morning."
Those who meet the eligibility requirements may pre-register by calling 940-349-2585.
Denton County Public Health is planning additional drive-through testing centers on an ongoing basis.
