The North Texas Food Bank is teaming up with Wells Fargo to give thousands of meals to families in need, starting with a massive drive through event in Irving.
The Food Bank has received a record number of requests during the pandemic, with 40 percent from people seeking food assistance for the first time.
“This is a reminder that there are so many people that are affected by the current economic landscape and what is happening with this virus,” says Erica Yaeger, NTFB Chief External Affairs Officer. “It's quite the endeavor to make sure we're able to keep up with the elevated need in the community.”
Volunteers have been working overtime to prepare more than 87,500 meals for people who need them. Thousands of emergency meal boxes will be distributed at the drive through pickup events. The boxes are full of the essentials including rice, veggies and cornbread, among other things.
The first drive-up food bank will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at Wells Fargo at 6051 N. State Highway 161 in Irving.
Three additional ones will be held throughout North Texas through Friday.
Details for each event can be found on the North Texas Food Bank website.
