Flu season is hitting North Texas early, with a noticeable rise over the last three weeks.
The latest numbers from the Children's Health System show an 83% increase in flu cases over the previous week. The CDC has placed Texas in the high flu risk category.
"It is our most prevalent virus and it's on the uptick as we would anticipate as kids have come off of winter break," adds Dr. Amy Richardson, assistant director of Cook Children’s Urgent Care Centers.
Doctors recommend frequent handwashing and cleaning surfaces thoroughly. If you’re unwell, stay home and reach out to your primary physician or an urgent care center, instead of taking an immediate trip to the ER.
