Sources tell KRLD news it all traces back to an arrest several months ago after shots were reported fired at traffic on I-30 near Buckner. All six officers responded.

A man staying at a hotel was being questioned in the hallway and got locked out of his room. The sources say Hughes went to get a passkey then returned, thought consent had been given to search the room and a gun was found, following which the man was taken downtown.

It was at the jail that one of the sources says Hughes signed a booking document that suggested the man had given consent for his room to be searched when it had not.

The grand jury typically takes several months before reviewing such cases.
