Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux says he will not provide the city’s police oversight board with routine reports on officers’ interactions with federal immigration authorities, citing concerns that releasing the information could endanger officers.

The decision was discussed publicly this week in Dallas, as the board sought more transparency around when and how local officers encounter Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The request followed public attention on recent instances in which Dallas officers appeared alongside ICE agents during enforcement activity. Comeaux said the department does not enforce federal immigration law and argued that detailed reporting could expose officers to targeting or harassment.

Members of the Community Police Oversight Board have said they want clearer data to understand how often such interactions occur and whether department policies are being followed.

The dispute highlights ongoing tension between police leadership and civilian oversight in Dallas, particularly as immigration enforcement remains a politically charged issue. No timeline has been set for further action by the board.
