A group of North Texans is honoring the legacy of the greatest generation through education. Here's this week's KRLD Difference Maker:

World War 2 ended in 1945 but a group of North Texans wants to make sure the legacy of those who fought in that war is never forgotten.

The non-profit Families of WW2 Veterans was launched and created by Barbara Fasol, whose grandfather had served in World War 2 while in the Navy.

"The focus of the charity is to honor what we call the Greatest Generation - World War 2 Veterans - while also giving financially needy students scholarships for college," said Sean Loving, Director of Scholarships for Families of WW2 Veterans.

Students can apply for a $2,500 scholarship for each semester for 4 years, which totals $20,000 per student. Students don't have to be related to a World War 2 veteran but do have to meet certain requirements. Students can apply on the Families of WW2 Veterans website.

One of their biggest fundraisers is their annual golf tournament where they invite and honor world war two veterans.
"Six of them showed up to last year's tournament and it was just amazing," Sean said.

For Sean and everyone at the non-profit, one thing makes it all worth it.

"The stories that we get [from applicants] are extremely touching," Sean said. "The letters are our fuel. It's a lot of work. Everybody who is on the board has full-time jobs. Most have families but getting that gratitude from those students makes it all worthwhile."

We're proud to call Sean Loving and Families of World War 2 Veterans this week's KRLD Difference Makers.
