If someone comes down with COVID-19, how do they know if they have the Delta variant, or some other variant? KRLDs Austin York spoke with Dr. Jennifer Shuford.
State health officials estimate that as many as 85% of the cases being diagnosed in Texas are of the delta variant and expects that number to rise.
Dr. Jennifer Shuford, Chief State Epidemiologist says for a variant to be identified, it must go through extensive testing.
She says because the identification process takes several steps, there is significant lag time for a case to be identified.
Shuford says the Delta variant is far more contagious than the original and other mutations but says the best defense, get vaccinated.
