Plano's city council is considering options for helping the city's homeless population, and some of them were discussed at last night's council meeting.
Council members learned Plano has nearly 130 homeless on the streets this year. That's about 25 more than in 2019 and that's mostly due to the Coronavirus.
One option that has been discussed is a hotel conversion to a non-congregate shelter.
City Councilman Rick Grady insists this is an issue Plano must face and he choked up a bit as he recounted his own bouts with homelessness.
No decision was made last night. If such an option were adopted, the shelter would be contracted out rather than be run by city staffers.
