TxDOT is seeking your input on a proposed project in a part of the Metroplex which is exploding in population and will continue to do so for years to come.
TxDOT is looking to reconstruct ten miles of U.S. 81/U.S. 287 between Pioneer Rd. and Avondale-Haslet Rd. in far northwest Tarrant County and far southeast Wise County.
It would include new overpasses at County Road 4840 and the future Northstar Pkwy., a new underpass at Ramhorn Hill Rd. and new direct connectors at State Highway 114 East.
The frontage roads would also be redone.
"It would take the existing frontage roads (and) make sure that they're one way," says TxDOT spokeswoman Bethany Kurtz, "as well as add sections of frontage road where they don't have any."
This section is the second part of a mssive reconstruction project along U.S. 81/U.S. 287; the first part extends south of Avondale-Haslet Rd. to I-35W.
"It would also reconstruct and add an additional main lane south of Avondale-Haslet Road to the southern end of the project," says Kurtz.
The project aims to address the transportation needs in an area that is experiencing explosive growth, including a development in Rhome currently underway that when built out will have 10,000 homes.
"It's definitely seeing some population growth and development," acknowledges Kurtz. "With that come the added transportation demands that we've all seen and experience on a daily basis."
There will be a public meeting Tuesday, May 16, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Chisholm Trail Church's Family Life Center, 300 Chisholm Creek Pkwy., Rhome.
"We'll have physical printed copies of the map," says Kurtz, "as well as project staff that they can speak with and who can answer questions."
A virtual meeting will also be available starting at 5:00 p.m. on May 16; go to www.txdot.gov and enter keyword US81/US287 Rhome.
