TARRANT COUNTY (1080 KRLD)- The Tarrant Area Food Bank is giving away supplies for the perfect Father’s Day cookout today with its first ever ‘Dinner for Dads’ event.

The food bank has enough supplies to give about 120 pounds of food to 1,500 families in need.

"We have lots of dad-friendly food," says Stephen Raeside, chief Development Officer with the TAFB. "Sausages, buns, chili, and lots of other great food that we think dads would love."

Raeside says the food bank is seeing greater need now than it was during the height of the pandemic. "Inflation is really biting our families hard ... we're scrambling to keep up."

But the food bank isn't immune to the effects of inflation, either. Its once fully stocked shelves are now half empty as the budget is pushed to the limit.

"All of our operating costs have soared," Raeside says. "Our diesel bill has doubled. Our electricity bill is going through the roof  ... and against the supply chain we're having to buy more and more food, and that's getting a lot more expensive."

Raeside says they're in desperate need of donations and volunteers. You can find out more about how to help here.

The 'Dinner for Dads' event kicks off tonight at 6:30 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. More info can be found here.
