Going into the College Football Playoff National Championship Monday night, TCU is listed as a 12.5 point underdog to Georgia. Despite the spread, fans in Fort Worth say they have confidence in the team.
"The fact that TCU is playing in this game is just amazing," one fan eating at Ol' South Pancake House said, saying TCU was also an underdog against Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl.
TCU finished 5-7 in 2021 but has gone 13-1 so far this year.
"Being in the national championship with a brand new coach is just fabulous," a woman at Ol' South said.
Sonny Dykes became coach at TCU this season after spending four years at SMU. With TCU's trip to the National Championship, he could become the fourth college football coach to end his first season with a championship.
"John Madden took a bunch of nobodies to the Super Bowl. That's what he reminds me of," another man at Ol' South said. "It's exciting to watch."
TCU is ranked #3. The Horned Frogs were 7.5 point underdogs to #2 Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl. Georgia is ranked #1 and seeks to become the first school to win consecutive titles since the College Football Playoff started in the 2014 season.
The game starts at 6:30 p.m. at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
