Carter BloodCare is hosting a blood drive Wednesday in Downtown Fort Worth. Wednesday is "World Blood Donor Day."
"That's a time we celebrate and thank our donors who come out consistently to help others," says Carter BloodCare's James Black.
The blood drive runs from 9 am to 2 pm at Burnett Park at 501 W. 7th Street in Fort Worth.
Everyone who donates will receive a cooler lunch bag and also a scratch off where you could win a selection of prizes:
- 300 Dedicated Donor Rewards points
- $150 Visa Fuel Gift Card
- $250 Target Gift Card
- Bose QuietComfort Earbuds
- YETI Tundra Haul Cooler
- Traeger Tailgater 20 Grill
- Two Southwest Airlines Roundtrip Flight Tickets
"It's a lot of great incentives for coming out and helping the community," Black says.
Black says walk-ins are welcome, but he urges people to make an appointment online or by calling (800) 366-2834.
During the summer, he says donations often drop off because families' schedules are different than during the school year. He says 25% of the community supply comes from high school blood drives. In addition, he says drives at businesses may have fewer participants as people plan vacations or time out of town.
"This is traditionally what we refer to as one of our seasonal slumps, meaning we see a dip in the community blood supply," Black says. "The need for blood never stops and never takes a break."
