Fort Worth (1080 KRLD) - UNT Health Science Center is holding a vaccination clinic near Downtown Fort Worth Thursday afternoon. The clinic from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. is available to walk-ups 18 and older.
UNT Health Science Center will be giving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at a mobile clinic outside the Center for Transforming Lives at the corner of W 3rd St and Burnett St.
"That's our goal, to get people vaccinated," says nurse practitioner Maureen Edwards. "There are too many pockets of unvaccinated people who are getting sick."
June 5, Tarrant County Public Health reported its lowest number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals since it started tracking numbers in May of 2020 with 84 patients. Thursday, that number had increased to 181.
Tarrant County reached a peak of 1,526 patients January 6.
Edwards says smaller clinics can give doctors and nurses more time to answer people's questions individually.
"If I just come at them with statistics that 99% of the people in the hospital are unvaccinated, that might not move them," she says. "But if I can find out what their concerns are, maybe I can talk to them and address those concerns."
Thursday, the Texas Department of State Health Services said 54% of Tarrant County residents 12 and older had received one dose of the vaccine; 48% were fully vaccinated.
