ROCKWALL COUNTY (1080 KRLD)- A high-speed chase that happened during rush hour ended with the arrest of a wanted man. The Rockwall County Sheriff’s office says it had no idea the man had a warrant until he made a bold move.
The incident started with a routine traffic stop by a Rockwall County Sheriff's deputy, a Sheriff’s office spokesman said. The driver pulled over in Rockwall.
What happened next was unexpected.
“The driver got out of the vehicle, the passenger hopped over into the driver’s seat and fled the scene, at which point, obviously, deputies gave pursuit” said Capt. Greg Welch.
Speeds hit over 100-miles an hour as the chase wound its way through the busy I-30/635 interchange without so much as a dent.
It ended in Dallas with a foot chase and arrest. That is when the deputies learned the man had a warrant for probation revocation out of another county, something that would not have been known if the man had not tried to run, Welch said.
“It appears he had a warrant out of a county, I believe it was Denton. That might be why he fled, for fear of being arrested. He currently is facing a charge of evading out of Rockwall County.
Other charges could be pending. The man’s name has not been released.
