With two-and-a-half inches of rain since Monday, and even more in some places, Fort Worth is having problems with its wastewater treatment system.

The city's water department spokeswoman Mary Gugliuzza says the heavy rain Tuesday and Wednesday caused some sanitary sewer overflows to occur from the Fort Worth collection system.

"Rainwater enters the collection system through cracks in the city’s lines or through cracks in private plumbing lines" said Gugliuzza. Furthermore she says Fort Worth’s drinking water is not affected by the overflows but even so, everyone should avoid contact with waste material, soil or water in the area potentially affected by the spillage.

The locations affected include Sycamore Lane near Highway 360, South University near the Chisolm Trail Parkway, Enterprise Avenue near the West Fork of the Trinity, Salado Trail near Trinity Boulevard and Greenway Park Drive near I-35 and Highway 121.
