A Wylie man implicated in a case of elderly abuse has been arrested after he skipped a court appearance, authorities say.
Joseph Calderon, who was scheduled to appear in court in October, fled instead of entering a plea on charges stemming from what a sheriff's deputy called one of the worst human abuse cases she had encountered. Calderon was recently taken into custody and is now being held without bond, according to court records.
Prosecutors allege Calderon locked a mentally challenged woman in a dog kennel and confined an incapacitated elderly woman in a room filled with dog feces after draining her bank account. His wife, who was also implicated in the case, pleaded guilty earlier this year and received a 75-year prison sentence.
Calderon is expected to face trial on multiple charges related to the abuse.
