Retired Lubbock man back home after helping in Ukraine war field hospital

A retired Lubbock banker who also happens to be a pharmacist is back in Texas with stories from his two months volunteering to help Ukrainians hurt in their war with the Russians.

Now retired from his banking career where he ended up as vice-chairman of City Bank in Lubbock, Mike Liner is also a former pharmacist and a one-time football referee in the BIG 12. But in retirement he volunteers with the Christian charity Samaritan's Purse with which he spent two months in Ukraine, marvelling at the Ukrainians resilience and strength.


For most of his two months in Ukraine, Liner says used his pharmacist experience in a field hospital set up in a parking garage, often within earshot of Russian bombs raining down on the cities near him.

On top of treating their wounds and injuries,Liner says one of the best medicines they administered was simply listening to the people telling their stories.
