Secretary of Homeland Security visiting Del Rio to address influx of Haitian migrants

The U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security is in Del Rio today to address what federal authorities are doing about the influx of tens of thousands of Haitian migrants at the border.

The U.S. flew Haitians camped under the international bridge in Del Rio back to their homeland yesterday and tried blocking others from crossing the border from Mexico in a massive show of force.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas says they are providing humanitarian aid to the migrants but will be returning them to their home country.

"The White House has directed appropriate U.S. agencies to work with the Haitian and other regional governments to provide assistance and support to returnees," Mayorkas said.

He says the White House is worried that many of the migrants are receiving false information that the border is open to them and others and will provide relief. Mayorkas had this message for those coming: "We have reiterated that our borders are not open and people should not make the dangerous journey."

Over 12,000 remain camped at the border crossing.
