With fire dangers rising in West Texas, the Texas A&M Forest Level is increasing its Wildland Fire Preparedness Level.
Red Flag Warnings are going up in West Texas and Fire Weather Watches are in place in the Panhandle and South Plains, the fire danger is rated high-to-extreme from San Angelo to El Paso and from the northern Panhandle to the Big Bend.
The A&M Forest Service has upped its threat level to 2, calling for mobilizing additional firefighting resources.
This week, a warm and dry fire environment will support wildfire activity for much of the state. A storm system and cold front is forecast to move into Texas on Thursday bringing elevated fire weather to areas south of Lubbock to Abilene and into South Texas.
Dry, dormant grasses, record high temperatures and increased wind speeds may support wildfire activity in these areas.
