Scattered showers through Tuesday, more rain late Thursday into Friday

I'm back on the air this morning!

While we've seen scattered showers and thunderstorms around North Texas over the past 24 hours, the worst weather has been across Central Texas and the Hill Country overnight. Yesterday, areas north of Interstate 30 received between 1 and 3 inches of rain, but only a few scattered showers remain across North Texas this morning.

Good morning and welcome to Monday!

We're waking up to temperatures in the low 70s with a few showers dotting the area, especially west and south of DFW Airport. Skies are cloudy, and there's plenty of humidity waiting to shake your hand as you head out the door this morning.

We'll see occasional breaks in the cloud cover today, with scattered showers and a few isolated thunderstorms possible. High temperatures will remain below average for mid-June, topping out in the mid-80s. Most of you will stay dry today.

The story overnight was much different across Central Texas and the Hill Country. Rainfall totals have generally ranged from 3 to 6 inches, with isolated amounts approaching a foot west of College Station and another bullseye just west of San Antonio. Much of the southern half of Texas remains under Flood Watches through Tuesday night and into Wednesday.

As of this morning, I counted 13 Flash Flood Warnings covering 19 counties across the region. If you have travel plans into these areas, consider postponing them and check with your carrier for potential delays over the next couple of days.

A stationary front combined with an area of low pressure moving through northern Mexico is fueling this widespread heavy rain event. The heaviest rain will continue shifting south and east through tonight, Tuesday, and the first half of Wednesday.

Residents along the Texas coast who haven't experienced flooding yet should prepare for significant flooding beginning later today and continuing at times through Wednesday morning. This includes Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Port O'Connor, Victoria, Houston, Galveston, Beaumont, and Port Arthur. Some locations could receive close to a foot of rainfall before this event comes to an end.

Back here in North Texas, scattered showers remain in the forecast on Tuesday, but most of the activity should stay south of Interstate 20. Highs will warm to around 90 degrees thanks to increased sunshine, although the humidity will remain quite noticeable.

Wednesday and Thursday look mostly dry with abundant sunshine and warming temperatures. Afternoon highs will climb into the mid-90s, and heat index values could approach 105 degrees.

By late Thursday, another cold front will begin approaching from the northwest, bringing a good chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday night into Friday morning. It's still too early to pinpoint where the heaviest rain will fall, but some areas of North Texas—especially west of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex—could see hefty rainfall totals.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms may continue into Friday as the front stalls somewhere across the region. Cooler temperatures will return, with highs dropping back into the mid-80s.

As the front slowly lifts northward over the weekend, I can't rule out scattered showers and storms on both Saturday and Sunday. Coverage won't be widespread, but temperatures will warm back to near 90 Saturday and the lower 90s Sunday. Add in the humidity, and it'll feel closer to 100+ degrees at times.

Have a great day! Avoid unnecessary travel into the southern half of Texas through midweek, and try to enjoy the weather when you can—it's the only weather you've got!
