One night after scoring 10 runs on 13 hits, the Padres bats were silenced by veteran righty Merrill Kelly, as they mustered just one run on three hits. Manny Machado at least continued to show that his offensive funk is a thing of the past, as he went 2-3 with a solo homer in the 2nd inning that accounted for the Padres only run of the night. Griffin Canning pitched fairly well, allowing just 2 runs in 4.2 innings, but battled traffic most of the night, as he scattered 7 base hits. The loss drops the Padres back to a game below .500 as they welcome the Blue Jays to San Diego to wrap up the first half of the season.
