The Padres lost to the Cubs 8-3 on Tuesday night, as the team's bullpen allowed 6 runs on a night where their top relievers weren't called upon to pitch. Walker Buehler was lifted with 2 outs in the 5th inning with the score tied 2-2, tossing 92 pitches, 48 of which went for strikes. Xander Bogaerts got the Friars on the board with a solo homer in the 2nd inning and then came around to tie the game on Ty France's RBI-single in the 4th inning, after a particularly impressive sequence. Bogaerts drew a walk after challenging two called strikes and winning both challenges, turning a strike out into a walk. He then stole second base to get into scoring position and was able to score easily on France's single back up the middle. Nico Hoerner's 2-run double in the 6th inning put the Cubs up for good, and Pete Crow-Armstrong's 3-run homer off of Wandy Peralta in the 7th inning blew the game wide open. Craig Stammen departed late in the game to travel to a funeral, and bench coach Randy Knorr assumed managerial duties, and will manage Wednesday's rubber match as well with Matt Waldron on the bump.
