When it comes to educating our kids, Florida ranks 40th in the U.S. in spending.
Sadly music and arts bear the brunt of underfunding even though they boost critical thinking, language, memory and spatial skills. Fortunately, a free set of online music education lessons and materials is currently available, courtesy of none other than the legendary Carnegie Hall. Here’s how to access them. Musical Explorers is a curriculum from Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute (WMI) recommended for children between the ages of four and eight, but this free online course includes babies and toddlers too. Explore how to personalize and sing a simple lullaby with your child, Fiona Apple, Billy Joel, Alison Krauss, and others present popular lullabies, new songs, and tips for singing and creating music with your little ones. You can explore music from around the world for kids in grade school, discover the world of orchestra and an interactive, online game dives into the components of the orchestra. The aim of the program is to connect kids “to rich and diverse musical communities as they build fundamental music skills through listening, singing, and moving to songs from all over the world,” according to its website. All courses are free-CLICK HERE to begin.
