The American Rescue Plan Act, signed by the President earlier this month, is a complex piece of legislative machinery designed to get financial help into the hands of Americans suffering from the economic impact of the pandemic. While stimulus payments and unemployment benefits are grabbing headlines, there are other provisions that may be able to help you in your unique situation. For example, we've learned about the tax credits for workers with children, but did you know there is a tax credit for workers without children? Low-paid workers without children, who disproportionately fall into the frontline workers category of employment, will get upwards of a $1,500 tax credit and the annual income cap has been raised to $21,000 on your taxes for 2021. If you are 19 and older who are not full-time students and make less than $21,000, you can look for a tax credit, based on a percentage of your income when you file your 2021 taxes. The American Rescue Plan offers additional help for renters and small landlords who are struggling to pay and collect rent. If you are at risk of being evicted and you have a household income at or below 80% of the median income in your area (less than $39,100 for single-$55,850 family of four in Alachua Co and less than $30,800 for single-$44,000 family of four in Marion County) your may qualify for assistance. The aid is based on your current income, not your past so it can help if you have recently lost your job. You can call 211, which is a national source for information about and referrals to local social services and other assistance. Considering the CDC national moratorium no evictions ends 3/31, you should call even if you were denied before. If you live in Alachua County, visit The Alachua County Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) website and for all other counties, visit FloridaHousing.org. The American Rescue Plan also lowered and eliminated insurance premiums on Affordable Care Act marketplace plans. So if you do not have medical insurance, you can enroll during a special COVID-19 enrollment period through August 15, 2021 at healthcare dot gov. Keep in mind, these marketplace reductions and eliminations in premiums are only temporary and will expires at the end of 2022.
