The actress, known for her role as Monica Geller on the hit NBC sitcom, scored her first Emmy nomination for the HBO Max special “Friends: The Reunion” on Tuesday, Variety reports.
During “Friends’” decade-long original run, Cox was snubbed from all 62 Emmy nominations the sitcom received, the outlet says. Five nominations went to Jennifer Aniston, who won one in 2002 for the lead comedy actress category. Lisa Kudrow scored 6 nominations over the show’s 10-year run, while Matt LeBlanc earned three, and Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer both walked away with one each.
Cox, the only main cast member to be snubbed by the Television Academy, later fell short of a Primetime Emmy nomination for 2009 sitcom “Cougar Town,” where she only received a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2017.
Earlier this year, Cox, 57, served as one of the executive producers for the highly-anticipated pre-recorded reunion, which aired on the streaming platform on May 27. She worked alongside original show creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane, and cast members Aniston, 52, Kudrow, 57, LeBlanc, 53, Perry, 51, and Schwimmer, 54.
The reunion included of a sit-down interview of all six of the stars with TV-host James Corden, as well as script readings, a trivia game, a fashion show, and more.
The special was also nominated in the variety special directing, variety special production design and variety special lighting design/direction categories, Variety reports.
Cox spoke with Ellen DeGeneres in May about the reunion, saying “It was unbelievable, so emotional." She added, “It’s an unscripted reunion, but we got to be on Stage 24 for the first time, all of us, in — I forgot how many years — 15 years or 17 years?”
The "Friends" reunion is available to watch now on HBO Max.
