No new prevention measures as new COVID-19 cases rise again in Philly

“The percent of those tests that were positive have also increased. It was 5.5% last week and the week before it was 5.1%. Now, we’ve been between 5 and 6% since mid-June, as far as the percent positive, but still the trend if there’s any increase at all is concerning to us,” he said. 

Farley said the city has to balance the risk of new cases with the consequences of curbing activities. So, for now, only the highest risk activities, like bars, remain off-limits.

In a new study, the CDC estimates that actual cases of the virus in the region is four to seven times higher than the number of positive tests, which now totals nearly 27,000. 

The number of fatalities in the city stands at 1,666.
