Flu season starts next month, and Pennsylvania’s top doctor says it may be unlike any we’ve ever experienced.

Levine notes that both illnesses produce similar symptoms such as cough, fever, headache, fatigue and nasal congestion.

“So while we wait for a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine to go through its clinical trials, you can get a safe and effective flu shot right now,” she said.

Levine’s office has ordered more than 860,000 doses of flu vaccine. She recommends anyone over the age of six months to get one.

Last flu season was a record setter in Pennsylvania, with nearly 130,000 cases reported.
