PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The baby who sparked an Amber Alert after police said the car he was inside was stolen in Philadelphia was found safe, police confirmed Saturday evening.
Officials say the 1-year-old and his 4-year-old sibling were inside a neon blue Mitsubishi Mirage when it was stolen along the 2400 block of North 33rd Street in Philadelphia's Strawberry Mansion section around 7 p.m.
The 4-year-old was left a few blocks away without any shoes. The younger child, who was sleeping in the backseat, remained missing until later on in the evening when he child was found inside that car, less than a mile away from where it was taken.
An Amber Alert was issued around 9 p.m., then canceled about 40 minutes later when police said the child was found safe.
The child's father confirmed everyone is OK.
"We don’t have a lot to say, but we are very much relieved, very much for the happy ending," he said. "We just want to get them home. We’ll get them checked out, of course. His mother is just very much elated, over the moon."
Police are still searching for the man responsible. They described him as wearing a long black coat, black pants and black sneakers.
