ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Atlantic City is continuing efforts to help residents find good jobs. The latest is a partnership for workforce development with Atlantic City Electric.
Classes are set to begin on November 1 for a new 14-week program that will provide essential training for people to launch a career in the energy industry. Mayor Marty Small says this is part of a six-year, $6.5 million workforce development program with Atlantic City Electric.
"We will change the trajectory of possibly 75 lives," said Small. "These people now will not only have a career but they're going to buy their home in Atlantic City. We have all all types of incentives, and they're going to spend their money in the community."
Tyler Anthony, CEO of Atlantic City Electric's parent company Pepco Holdings, said this will provide a path to the middle class, and it's just the beginning of big things to come.
"What happens is, this gets momentum where other companies see it and they want to be a part of it. That energy is contagious, so I think we’re off to a terrific start," he said.
The plan is to have several groups going through the training each year for at least the next six years.
