PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia’s popular pop-up Diner en Blanc celebrates 10 years on Thursday.
Participants arrive at meeting spots all over the city and are escorted to a secret public location, which isn’t revealed until hours before. They bring their own tables, chairs and food and dress all in white.
Co-host Natanya DiBona said they have had some memorable locations through the years.
“The first year at Logan Circle was really ideal,” she said. “It’s a 360 view of so much that’s important to Philadelphia. We loved Avenue of the Arts, Broad Street. Art Museum was a goal of ours for our fifth anniversary.”
This year, organizers scrolled back in their email list for the 10th anniversary and invited everyone from the 2012 event, which drew in 1,300 diners.
“Last year we went to 50%, so we were 3,000. This year, we’re hoping to get probably 5,000,” said DiBona.
The event has fostered plenty of friendships and also served as the backdrop for wedding proposals over the years.
“We have had quite a few, and looking back at pictures, I do wonder where they are now,” DiBona said.
