PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — This weekend on Flashpoint, host Cherri Gregg asks the burning questions about the recent rise of Black women in leadership positions.
For the past few years, there's been a wave of "Black Girl Magic" as more and more Black women get opportunities to ascend to the higher rungs of leadership, including the office of Vice President of the United States. Is this a long time coming? Will there be a price for this ascension?
To kick off Black History Month, Stacy Hawkins, a law professor at Rutgers Law School and an expert in diversity and the law joins Christine Jacobs, executive director of Represent PA, an organization that trains women leaders to run for political office in the commonwealth.
Then, our newsmaker of the week is Keir Bradford-Grey, chief of the Defender Association of Philadelphia. The first Black woman to fill that role, she recently wrote a letter to the editor of the Philadelphia Inquirer calling out the double standard in leadership of Black women.
Recently, the paper's editorial board called for Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw to resign in the wake of a scathing City Controller report detailing major failings by the Philadelphia Police Department during the George Floyd racial unrest. Bradford-Grey discusses the unusual expectations of Black women in leadership and why she decided to speak up.

Finally, the Patriot Home Care Changemaker of the week is Adam McNeil, founder of SistaTalkPHL. During the pandemic, McNeil used part of his stimulus funds to hold community wash days for single mothers in underserved communities. He's since grown the effort to provide expanded support for moms in need.
