PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Just two weeks after the popular brewpub announced the closure of three locations (Chestnut Hill, Voorhees, and Newark), Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant abruptly closed its remaining 16 locations in the Philadelphia area Thursday.

The surprise announcement went out to the public via a short Facebook post that thanked customers for their “support, friendship, and loyalty over the years.”

“We sincerely hope to return in the near future, and when we do, we promise to welcome you with open arms,” the statement continued.

In a separate announcement that went out to employees revealed financial troubles to be the reason for the brewery’s abrupt closure.

The Delaware-based brewery first opened in 1996 in Newark and expanded to Philadelphia, many of its surrounding suburbs and New Jersey over the next two decades. Amid the pandemic, the company opened a production facility to begin canning its beers. Just last year, the brewery had plans to expand near Temple University’s campus, but the location never opened.
