PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Burlington County was temporarily placed on lockdown Tuesday morning for unsubstantiated reports of an active shooter.

The base posted on social media around 11 a.m., “ALL PERSONNEL ARE TO LOCKDOWN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. ALL PERSONNEL OUTDOORS SHOULD TAKE COVER.”

The lockdown was lifted about an hour later. In a statement, base officials said reports of an active shooter on campus were false and there was no threat.

"Our priority is the safety and security of everyone on the installation," said Col. Michael Stefanovic, base commander. "We worked closely with local law enforcement and emergency responders to ensure the situation was investigated and resolved as quickly as possible."

The military base is located in New Hanover Township, New Jersey, about 18 miles southeast of Trenton.
