PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 43-year-old Philadelphia man is facing decades in prison after he pleaded guilty to a deadly hit-and-run rampage in 2021 that killed one person and injured three others.

Kareem Welton pleaded guilty in Montgomery County on Friday to third-degree murder, attempted murder, three counts of aggravated assault, and robbery of a motor vehicle.

Around 11:15 p.m. on July 27, 2021, Welton stole a car and rammed a motorcycle from behind in Center City, near Broad and Lombard streets, injuring two people.

He later drove onto the sidewalk and hit a woman as she walked home from work on 15th Street, near South Street. Welton then made a U-turn and drove over her, killing her. He took her chef’s jacket and drove off.

After stealing another car from Rittenhouse Square at 4:40 a.m., Welton crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic and hit a bicyclist in Manayunk.

He kept heading west and made his way to Collegeville, where, around 6 a.m., he again crossed into the oncoming lane and hit a jogger.

Welton was taken into custody in Trappe.

His trial was scheduled to start next month. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
