PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — When it comes to heart health, there is no doubt that moderate exercise for a total of 120 minutes a week is a great place to start. If you haven't been exercising, you might want to check it out with your doctor first.
When it comes to diet, you can start on your own any time you like. Here are some basics: Cut back on the salt. Sodium attracts water and this can increase blood pressure.
Try to get five servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Fish, lean meat and legumes are great protein sources and look for unsaturated fats like nuts, avocados and olive oil.
Finally, when it comes to dairy, go with low-fat options.
