PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Computers have become a vital part of many work environments. While we can debate the pros and cons of computerization, one thing is clear: A growing number of workers are sitting at a desk eight-plus hours a day.
The longer we sit, the less fat we burn, according to Mayo Clinic. This leads to increased blood pressure, high blood sugar and unhealthy cholesterol levels.
There is good news. About an hour of moderate exercise each day can counteract the impact of sitting. Another suggestion: Take a break from sitting every 30 minutes, or if possible, get a standing desk.
