Suspect in killing of Philadelphia police inspector's son turns down plea deal

Tyquan Atkinson will face first-degree murder charges

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man accused of killing a Philadelphia police inspector’s son turned down a plea deal on Monday, and the case will head to a jury.

Tyquan Atkinson, 22, is charged with first-degree murder for the 2019 killing of Nicholas Flacco, following a fight at FDR Park between a group of women after a Phillies game.

The prosecution extended a one-day plea offer of third-degree murder to Atkinson.

Atkinson’s lawyer, Evan Hughes, said they are taking their chances in front of a jury.

"The Commonwealth put thought and consideration into the case," said Hughes. "They extended an offer, but ultimately that was rejected by my client."

Atkinson is now facing first-degree murder and other weapons charges in the death of Flacco, who was the son of Philadelphia police inspector Christopher Flacco.

Both sides will be back in front of a judge later this week, as they work to find a start date for the jury trial.

Atkinson has been in jail with no bail since 2019.
