PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two women were killed in separate shootouts in Philadelphia early Thursday morning.
The first incident took place at the Trendsetters bar on Woodland Avenue in the Kingsessing section of the city. It started around 1 a.m. with a woman who was described as a bar regular.
“The argument then came outside of the bar and that’s where the 27-year-old female got involved in an altercation with a 23-year-old male,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
Authorities said the woman was in the back seat of a car arguing with a man on the street when she pulled out a gun and fired at him. Then, police said, another man on the street, in defense, shot the woman.
The car drove off. The woman was taken to the hospital, where she died.
The man who shot her stayed and cooperated with investigators. Preliminary reports from police said he had a license to carry.
Detectives also interviewed the bar employees and customers. They are scouring surveillance footage from the area to try to get a full picture of the incident.
About 45 minutes later, another shooting took place in the area of 12th Street and Lindley Avenue in the Logan section of the city. Two women were walking into an apartment building.
“Two males approached them and announced a robbery, and that’s where we believe there was an exchange of gunfire,” Small said.
The woman who fired her gun died during the shootout, police said. Later, investigators learned that a 15-year-old boy was dropped off at the hospital with several gunshot wounds and was in critical condition.
Police are trying to determine if the teen was involved in the robbery and shooting. There is a similar description of the getaway car and the one used to drop the boy off at the hospital, according to authorities.
So far, no one has been arrested in either case.
