This winter, art is stepping out of the classroom and into Balboa Park. The San Diego Watercolor Society is teaming up with the San Diego Museum of Art and Oak Park Elementary for a hands-on plein air program that’s teaching fourth-graders California history through painting. Seventy students will learn directly from professional artists, paint on site at the museum, and even see their finished work exhibited at the Oak Park City Library. Participating artist Geoff Allen, who’s helping mentor these young painters and bring art education to life in one of San Diego’s most iconic public spaces, discusses this program.
