The Padres beat the Diamondbacks 10-7 on Saturday night, which allowed them to secure homefield advantage in the Wild Card Series regardless of what happens on Sunday. The Cubs will visit Petco Park on Tuesday for a rematch of last year's Wild Card Series that the Cubs won 2-1 in Chicago. The Padres fell behind 3-1, but poured it on after that, scoring two runs in the 3rd inning, three in the 4th, two in the 5th and two more in the 6th inning. Craig Stammen didn't leave anything to chance, and turned to his high leverage relievers throughout the game despite the big cushion in an attempt to close out the game and secure homefield. The Padres held a 10-4 lead entering the 9th inning and brought in Mason Miller, who struggled uncharacteristically. Miller allowed three earned runs to score and the tying run ended up reaching the plate, but Miller struck out Ildemaro Vargas to end the game. The Padres reached the 90-win mark for the third consecutive season with Saturday's win.
