(SportsRadio 610) -- The Texans traded up in the fourth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday to select North Carolina offensive tackle Charlie Heck at 126 overall.
The Texans started out the day with the 111st pick, but traded back with Miami for later picks (136th and 141st). Then they made another trade with the Rams to move up to No. 126, and
they picked Heck.
Heck, at 6 feet, 8 inches and 320 pounds, has played both tackle positions in college. He could become the Texans' swing tackle behind Laremy Tunsil and Tytus Howard.
The Texans rotated Chris Clark and Roderick Johnson when either starter was out with an injury, but they both struggled at times. Heck has a chance to fortify that spot.
Heck's father, Andy Heck, is an offensive line coach for the Kansas City Chiefs and a former NFL tackle himself.
At North Carolina, Heck redshirted his first year, started some games as a redshirt freshman, then became a full-time starter as a redshirt sophomore. He played right tackle in his junior season before switching to left tackle for his senior season.
Heck said it's been a dream of his since he can remember going to football games with his dad as a child.
"You know, football has been in my family a long time," Heck said via conference call Saturday. "My dad played, he's coach now. So it's kind of been in my blood growing up and just watching all these teams. I mean, I couldn't be happier to be a part of this organization."
Charlie Heck was downstairs playing ping pong with one of his friends whenever the #Texans called him and informed him he was being selected."I'm ecstatic. I couldn't be happier." #TexansDraft
