At least one former Jet sees New York as the "perfect" destination for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Former Gang Green wide receiver Brandon Marshall said during a recent interview that the Jets would make for an ideal landing spot for Watson, who has reportedly requested a trade from the team that drafted him 12th overall in 2017.
Marshall, who last played in 2018 with the Seattle Seahawks, cited the Jets' favorable salary cap situation when explaining why he thinks they should be on Watson's short-list of trade suitors.
"The New York Jets are the perfect landing spot for Deshaun Watson," Marshall told TMZ Sports this week. "How do you want to spend the money? The salary cap, we got around $68, $69 million available. Who do you want?"
Marshall, seemingly addressing Watson directly, continued with his elevator pitch.
"You want an offensive lineman? A tackle, a guard -- you want to go get a wide receiver? Allen Robinson's out there. That's a guy we could go get -- X, Y receiver, just throw it up -- a guy who's just hungry to go to a whole other level, who feels like he's been held back a little bit."
Marshall, who played one season with the Giants in addition to his two-year stint with the Jets, predicted Watson would feel right at home in the Big Apple.
"It's phenomenal, and it's perfect for you if you're a guy who performs on the field, and if you're a guy who is humble and a good guy -- which he is -- then they're going to love you.
"But at the same time, if you come in and change it up in any way, they're going to kill you. Just come in and be exactly who you are, and you're going to be fine. You're going to be cherished, and people are going to take care of you. I absolutely loved the New York market -- they're real, they're authentic, blue-collar, and man they show up."
Marshall sounded Namath-like in his confidence in Watson's ability to restore the Jets to respectability.
"He's going to turn this thing around, and we've been waiting for someone like him to lead the way."
