(SportsRadio 610) - The NFL named Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud the Offensive Rookie of the Month for the month of September.
Stroud, 21, is the eighth player in franchise history to win a rookie of the month award, the fifth offensive player in team history and the first since the 2017 season.
In three games during the month of September, Stroud completed 78-of-121 passes for 906 yards, including four touchdowns and no interceptions.
His 121 pass attempts are the most to begin a career without throwing an interception, surpassing the likes of Warren Moon (103), Carson Wentz (102), Case Keenum (102) and Tom Brady (101).
Stroud became just the third player in NFL history to amass at least 900 passing yards in his first three games, joining Cam Newton (1,012 in 2011) and Justin Herbert (931 in 2020).
The Texans' No. 2 overall pick has a 98.0 passer rating through his first three games, which ranks as the third-highest in NFL history by a rookie to start a career.
Stroud isn’t concerned with stacking up milestones or making history, rather winning each day as he continues to progress in his first year.
Mature beyond his years, Stroud said it’s as simple as staying consistent with a good routine that’s helped him progress each day and week since he became Houston Texan.
“Everybody kind of has their own recipe for success and me personally, it’s just my routine and turning around every week for that team we’re playing and just working,” Stroud said Wednesday. “Working hard and being hard on yourself, being critical, being accountable on everybody, including yourself and holding everybody to a standard of what it takes to win and that’s what it takes.”
Stroud and the Texans open the month of October this Sunday at NRG Stadium when they host T.J. Watt and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
