Texans select LB Christian Harris in third round of NFL Draft

(SportsRadio 610) - The Texans added to their linebacker group by drafting Alabama's Christian Harris on Friday night.

Harris was a defensive back Nick Saban converted into a linebacker at Alabama. So Harris, at 6'0" 230 pounds, is a bit undersized for the position but runs a 4.4 40-yard dash with the ability to cover a lot of ground quickly.

Texans general manager Nick Caserio said Harris was one of a cluster of players they would be considering at pick No. 75 overall, but the GM was surprised to see him still there.

"The fact that he was still kind of milling around there for whatever reason, you know, it's not for me to judge or figure out why," Caserio said. "I would say fit the profile in terms of what we want at linebacker. I don't think anybody was more ecstatic than Lovie about that pick, but talking about a guy that's 6-foot, 225, 230 pounds, runs 4.4. Fits the profile of what we want to do defensively at that position."

Harris started in 30 games for Alabama, where he recorded 26 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, an interception and 220 tackles. He led the Crimson Tide with three sacks and four tackles for loss in the 2022 College Football Championship game against Georgia.
