DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - With the NFL season kicking off in just 10 days, the Dallas Cowboys made a major cut to their roster on Thursday, releasing veteran safety Ha-Ha Clinton Dix.

ESPN's Todd Archer was first to report the release.

Clinton-Dix, who signed a one-year $3.75 million deal in March, was entering his third year on a different team in as many seasons, after the Bears elected not to renew his contract last offseason.

A former spending the first-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2014, Clinton-Dix spent the first four and a half years playing under now Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, before he was traded to the Washington Redskins for a fourth-round pick in October of 2018.

The Redskins then elected to let Clinton-Dix walk, eventually signing with Chicago.

Per Archer's report, the move clears $1.5 million in cap space for Dallas, with $2.25 million of the deal being guaranteed to Clinton-Dix upon his signature.

The remaining safeties on the roster for Dallas include Xavier Woods, Donovan Wilson, Darian Thompson, and rookie Reggie Robinson II, who was reportedly moved to safety last weekend.

The Cowboys are also rumored to be exploring a position change to safety for cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, who played the position a good deal in college. Rookie Trevon Diggs also has college experience at the position, but has not been connected to a possible position change as of yet.
