The D.C. Reflecting Pool has been making headlines after an algae bloom raised questions about how the iconic landmark’s water could be restored. To get a professional perspective, Kevin & Taylor welcomed Jesse, known as the “Pool Whisperer” from Sparkling Pools Georgia, to the Feel Good Morning Show.
Jesse explained that algae problems are not unusual and can happen in many bodies of water when conditions are right. According to him, factors like weather, temperature changes, water chemistry, circulation and filtration all play a role in maintaining a clean pool.
When asked about the size and setup of the massive Reflecting Pool, Jesse said large bodies of water require proper systems to keep water moving and balanced. He explained that without circulation and filtration, water can become a much bigger challenge to maintain.
The conversation also touched on the reported use of hydrogen peroxide as a possible solution. Jesse said sanitizing treatments can help address algae, but the first step is understanding the water’s condition before taking action.
“If they called you today and said, Jesse, you’re in charge of cleaning up the reflecting pool,” Kevin asked, what would the process look like?
Jesse said the first step would be a full water analysis to determine the right treatment plan. From there, it would take a hands-on approach, including brushing, cleaning and making sure chemicals are working effectively throughout the water.
While Jesse spends his days helping pool owners across Georgia, he admitted taking on a project as large as the D.C. Reflecting Pool would be a major challenge.
