The Dodgers evened the series with the Padres thanks to a 5-4 win on Tuesday night, setting up a rubber match between the two NL West foes on Wednesday. The game was tightly contested and featured four long balls, two by each team. Freddie Freeman got things started with a 2-run home run in the top of the 1st inning. Manny Machado responded with a 2-run blast in the bottom of the frame, his first home run since May 9th. Miguel Andujar hit his second home run in as many nights, a 2-run missile in the 3rd inning to give the Padres a 4-2 lead. Freeman would leave the building again in the 6th inning, a solo shot to tie the game at 4 after Ohtani's RBI-groundout in the 5th. Mason Miller entered with the score tied in the top of the 9th inning to try and keep the Dodgers off the board and give the Padres a chance to walk it off in the bottom of the 9th. Miller issued a one-out walk to Max Muncy, who was then lifted for pinch-runner Alex Call. Call, in an attempt to steal second base, took off before Miller threw his pitch. Miller noticed him, stepped off the rubber and fired a tough throw over to first base, which got away from Ty France and dribbled into right field, allowing Call to make it all the way to third base with just one out. That was the turning point in the game, as the Padres turned what should have been an easy pickoff into the go-ahead run 90 feet away with just one out. Andy Pages then hit a sacrifice fly to right field, and Call slid home on a bang bang play at the plate to score what turned out to be the game winning run. Randy Vasquez will square off against Shohei Ohtani on Wednesday.
